Ceftron 2gm IV Injection

✔️ Dosage

Adults

• Usual dose: 1–2 g via IV or IM once daily (or divided into two doses).
• Pneumonia, bronchitis, bacterial otitis media, skin infections, urinary tract infections, septicemia, bone/joint infections, meningitis: 1–2 g IV/IM once daily (max: 4 g/day).
• Uncomplicated gonorrhea: 250 mg IM single dose.
• Surgical prophylaxis: 1 g IV single dose, administered 30–120 minutes before surgery.

Infants and Children (1 month and older)

• Usual dose: 50–75 mg/kg IV/IM once daily (or divided into two doses).
• Pneumonia, bronchitis, skin infections, UTIs, septicemia, bone/joint infections: 50–75 mg/kg IV/IM once daily (max: 2 g/day).
• Acute otitis media: 50 mg/kg IM single dose (max: 1 g/day).
• Meningitis: 100 mg/kg IV/IM once daily or divided into two doses (max: 4 g/day).

Duration of Therapy: Continue treatment for at least 2 days after symptoms resolve. Usual duration: 4–14 days (longer for complicated infections).

✔️ Ceftron is generally well-tolerated, but the following side effects may occur:

• Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, glossitis.
• Skin reactions: Rash, pruritus, urticaria, edema, erythema multiforme.
• Hematological: Eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, anemia, neutropenia.
• Hepatic: Elevated liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT), bilirubinemia.
• CNS: Nervousness, confusion, sleep disturbances, headache, hyperactivity, convulsions, dizziness.
• Local: Rare phlebitis after IV administration.

✔️ Administration

Preparation for Intramuscular (IM) Injection:

• Dissolve 250 mg or 500 mg Ceftriaxone in 2 mL Lidocaine HCl (1%) or 1 g Ceftriaxone in 3.5 mL Lidocaine HCl (1%).

Preparation for Intravenous (IV) Injection:

• Dissolve 250 mg or 500 mg Ceftriaxone in 5 mL Water for Injection or 1 g Ceftriaxone in 10 mL Water for Injection.

Administration Guidelines:

• IM or IV injections: Administer over 2–4 minutes.
• IV infusions: Administer over 30 minutes at concentrations of 10–40 mg/mL.

Always perform a test dose to check for patient tolerance before starting treatment. Use freshly prepared solutions for better efficacy, although they remain stable for 6 hours at room temperature or 24 hours at 5°C.

Overdose Effects

No specific antidote. Overdose should be managed symptomatically.

Storage Conditions

✔️ Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics or Ceftriaxone.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Safety in pregnancy has not been established. Use only if necessary.
• Lactation: Ceftriaxone is excreted in low concentrations in breast milk. Use with caution in breastfeeding mothers.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Risk of anaphylactic shock; administer epinephrine and glucocorticoids if needed.
• Rare cases of gallbladder sludge detected on sonograms, reversible upon discontinuation.
• Monitor blood counts during prolonged therapy.
